I was scrolling through Tik Tok earlier this week and saw a creator who stated and I quote, "if you are not a celebrity I don't think you should be wearing a Canadian tuxedo. I just don't see a normal person wearing denim on denim and thinking it's good fashion".
As someone who is the queen of denim on denim (more denim outfits coming), it gave me a good chuckle. Exhibit A in this post showcasing how easily this DL1961 Taylor Barrel Jeans and Jodie Jacket pairs well and looks amazing on a regular girl. Now we are not just here to talk about how good I look in a Canadian tuxedo, let's talk sustainability and investing in good quality pieces for our wardrobes.
As my style has evolved, so has my preferences on the materials I put on my body. Now I know there is this whole movement on polyester and synthetic fabrics but let's be real here conventional cotton can also be harmful based on how it is grown and made. Nonetheless, I do have a growing preference for cotton as it is a more breathable and absorbent fabric.
Which brings me to my point, when buying denim I have a preference for denim made out of cotton. It lasts longer, it's breathable, absorbent and more durable allowing it to mold to your body with each wear. Nothing irritates me more than denim that changes it's shape after 1 or 2 washes.
So my recommendation, give your pockets a break and invest in denim that looks better as time goes on. You can invest in high quality brands like DL961, SER.O.YA, Levi's, EB Denim, AGOLDE etc. Or if you want great quality at a lower price tag brands like Lioness Fashion also carry 100% cotton jean's as well.
Let's continue to invest in pieces that we will actually wear and will last long in our closets!
